De-merge and Re-merge of Robert Biggin Perkins in New FamilySearch

Posted by Andy E. Wold on August 12th, 2008 — Posted in Andy's Research, ToDo List, Family Line: Perkins

Well, I am in the process of trying to get the “Robert Biggin Perkins” mess cleaned up in New FamilySearch.

Three men with the same name.  One born in 1739, his son born in 1765, and his nephew born in 1789.  To add to the confusion, 1739 married Elizabeth Lollar and his mother’s name is also Elizabeth.  Also, 1765 married Sarah Catherine Morris, and his nephew 1789 married Sarah Ann Norris.

Report: Obit Place contains “NEED” [TO LOOKUP]

Well, I messed things up trying to fresh re-install TNG 7.0.0 onto my website, and lost the “tng_timelineevents” table. When I tried to re-create it, I ran the “tablecreate.php” file, instead of viewing it and copying out the portion I needed to use. This re-created ALL of my tables and wiped out anything I had added in the 5-6 hours I was adding obituaries and descendants this morning. VERY FRUSTRATING!

Day 7 — One Week and Counting :)

Posted by Andy E. Wold on March 22nd, 2008 — Posted in *Weight Loss

I had to stay late at work till 10am, and then caught my second wind again this morning, so I was up until 12:30pm.

After a shortened sleep, I got up at 18:30pm to start my first “day” off.

    Day Six

Posted by Andy E. Wold on March 21st, 2008 — Posted in *Weight Loss

Well, tonight was our “SLC Movie Fans” Meetup — dinner and a movie. I pretty much knew I wouldn’t be following the method today, but would continue it tonight at work. I did try to enjoy every bite of my dinner, and ate my popcorn one piece at a time — which is quite an accomplishment for me! Usually, I just scarf right through a large bucket before the movie even starts! Tonight, I had just finished off the large bucket as the movie ended — wahoo!

We saw “Vantage Point” tonight. It had Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox (from “Lost” on TV). It had a funky format, rewinding the story line, then starting at the exact same place from another person’s point of view — hence, “Vantage Point”. It was pretty good, and had a 95% believable car chase scene in it.

    Day Five

Posted by Andy E. Wold on March 20th, 2008 — Posted in *Weight Loss

Today was a short at-home day, since I caught my second wind when I arrived home, and stayed up two hours later than normal watching my TV shows recorded during the night.

I then had to head over to our HOA’s Annual Meeting — which could have been finished in 30 minutes, but dragged out to 2 hours (when I left) with people expressing concerns to board members who hadn’t even been voted in yet. Sheesh!

Tonight at work is one of my work alone nights (Vincent is off), so it’s just me to cover the phones. Luckily, I now have my RAZR phone again as a backup for my iPAQ which took a dive last week (thanks a bunch HP! %$&#@!)

    Day Four

Posted by Andy E. Wold on March 19th, 2008 — Posted in *Weight Loss

Yeah, I officially weighed myself at work today ….. 326 pounds. Eech! (Dang manual public scales!) A bit more than I expected, but not shocking.

Now, to just lose 106 pounds of it. :)

    16:00pm “Breakfast”

    • Two slices of French bread with Peanut Butter and Mom’s Strawberry Jam
      • Using the “take a bite, put the sandwich down, enjoy it, and take another bite…” method helped — I realized I was full after only two slices, instead of my usual 4.
    • An 8oz glass of Coke
      • I measured and marked “1C” on my tumbler at home.

    22:00pm “Snack” at Work

    • A 1-1/8oz bag of Baked Lays potato chips
    • An 8oz glass of Coke (my 16oz tumbler at work with a full scoop of ice)
    • Took one flight of stairs down and back up to my floor.

    00:00am “Lunch” at Wendy’s

    • Single combo (ketchup, mayo, lettuce, tomato), med sized fries (5oz), med sized Coke (30oz)
    • Took two flights of stairs down from my floor.
      • I was only able to eat half of the fries before feeling full — using the method!

    02:50am “Coke Break” at Work

    • An 8oz glass of Coke (my 16oz tumbler at work with a full scoop of ice)
    • Took one flight of stairs down and back up to my floor.

    • Half of an 8oz glass of Coke (my 16oz tumbler at work with a full scoop of ice)
    • Took one flight of stairs down and back up to my floor.

The First Day towards the Better Me

Posted by Andy E. Wold on March 17th, 2008 — Posted in *Weight Loss

I was impressed tonight with the methods of good-eating (formerly known as dieting) that may actually work for me. It was on a new TLC show called I Can Make You Thin

As of today, I weigh about 320 pounds. (I’ll weigh myself tomorrow night at work on their manual scale.) I need to lose about one hundred pounds to get back to my healthy weight for me.

This week he taught his Four Golden Rules:

    1. Eat when you are hungry.
      1. Eat when your stomach tells you that you’re hungry.
      2. Physical hunger (the good way) is a slowly building feeling, emotional hunger (the bad way) is an instant feeling.
      • This one is difficult right now — I eat emotionally. Living alone, I never have to “wait until dinner time”.
      • He gives a Hunger Scale, saying you should never be out of the 3 to 7 range:
        1. Physically faint
        2. Ravenous
        3. Fairly hungry
        4. Slightly hungry
        5. Neutral
        6. Pleasantly satisfied
        7. Full
        8. Stuffed
        9. Bloated
        10. Nauseous
    2. Eat what you want to eat, not what you think you should eat.
      1. Eating what we don’t like to eat causes us to think about what we want to eat, causing cravings, which leads to binge eating later.
      • I should have no problem with this one. ;)
    3. Eat consciously, enjoy every mouthful.
      1. Eat slowly by cutting your food with a knife and fork, putting them down between bites.
      2. Chew the food thoroughly, at least twenty chews per bite. It’s a food you like (see rule #2), so enjoy every bite of it.
      3. No side distractions while you are eating — no TV, music, INTERNET (for me).
      • This is great, I tried it tonight while eating a chicken nugget and tater tots dinner. I was feeling full almost half way through what I would normally eat. I had noticed that my normal serving size is exactly double the recommended serving sizes, so this should cut my calorie intake in half almost immediately. I did have the TV on as I was watching his show during “dinner”, so next time I may just let my DVR do its job. :)
      • He suggested trying to eat a meal with your eyes closed. This helps you focus on your stomach’s fullness, and lets you eat with your stomach, instead of eating with your eyes and thinking that you have to eat everything on your plate. I may give it a try later.
    4. When you are full, stop eating.
      1. Listen for your stomach’s “I’m full” message.
      2. If you are hungry later, eat (see Rule #1).
      • No need to be “stuffed”

    01:00am Dinner

    • 10 Chicken Nuggets (x2 recommended servings)
    • 18 Tater Tots (x2 recommended servings)
    • 1/2 C French Fry Sauce (equal amounts Miracle Whip & Ketchup) = 8Tbl
    • One 2/3 full glass Coke (12-oz)
